Parliamentary Golf Group hosts England Golf Partnership Reception

The All-Party Parliamentary Golf Group yesterday (Tuesday 7 June) hosted a reception in the Palace of Westminster on behalf of the England Golf Partnership (EGP).

The EGP brings together the amateur governing body, England Golf, and the Professional Golfers’ Association, with the support of the Golf Foundation charity and Sport England, and co-ordinates the development of golf in schools, local communities, clubs, counties and in-talent pathways to national teams. This year’s US Masters champion, Danny Willett, had previously been a recipient of funding from the EGP talent development programme.

The reception provided an opportunity for the golf community to hear about to hear about plans EGP has to work with government and Sport England.

The reception was hosted by Group Vice-Chairman and MP for Colne Valley, Jason McCartney MP. He said “I was delighted to host this reception in the Palace of Westminster in conjunction with the EGP. I was delighted to hear about the EGP’s plans to grow golf in England, by providing more opportunities for people to start, stay and succeed in the game.”

Addressing Members of both Houses of Parliament, EGP guests, and non-Parliamentary members of the Group, EGP Chair Nic Coward described the role of the partnership and the importance of golf participation in England: “Golf is a major sporting, social and economic contributor to constituencies across the country, and the fifth largest sport by participation. The England Golf Partnership is committed to growing the game, and has a clear plan to encourage even more people to take up the sport and stay fit and healthy.”
